Story

I spent the year after my college graduation working remotely from my childhood bedroom. There’s nothing like waking up to your 13-year-olds self’s design choices to humble you a bit. It certainly wasn’t where I wanted to be. For the three years prior, I had planned to find a job in an entirely new city and spend my early twenties going on exciting adventures. Then I spent a year sitting in my room alone in my hometown.

Job applications came and went, sometimes without even a courteous response. My self-confidence in my skills plummeted and I wondered if I had made all the wrong choices on my way to that moment (I earned a BA in English from an engineering and agriculture university, so the odds seemed stacked against me). But I heard the same sentiment over and over again: your opportunity will come when it's time. I can’t tell you how frustrating that was to hear. After 365 days of waiting and being told to wait longer, my patience was wearing thin.

Almost exactly a year after walking across the stage with my diploma, I walked into the offices of ZOX. Finally, I was exactly where I needed to be. Que Sera Sera isn’t about having patience; quite the opposite actually. It translates to “Whatever will, will be,” meaning that despite your persistence, anger, or worry, things will work out in a way that is out of your control. I can tell you that the wait is awful and sometimes there’s no way to avoid feeling those emotions. However, I can also tell you that you can make the outcome wonderful, no matter what it is.
